Catedex for Android ยท last updated 14 October 2026
Catedex collects no data. There's no account, no server of ours, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. Everything you log stays on your phone.
What stays on your phone
Your cats, their photos and sightings, the places you logged them, your profile (name, emoji and the key that signs your cards) and your settings are stored only in the app's own storage on your device. We never receive any of it.
Permissions
- Camera: to photograph cats and scan cat cards.
- Photos: to pick a cat photo or a card image you already have.
- Location (optional): to note where you spotted a cat, and to read where a picked photo was taken.
All of these are used only on your phone, only when you use the feature, and you can say no and still use the app.
What leaves your phone
Only these, and none of it reaches us:
- Map tiles. The map is drawn from OpenFreeMap, which, like any website, sees your IP address and which part of the map is being loaded.
- Place names. To turn a location into a place name ("Turin, Piedmont"), the app asks your phone's built-in geocoding service, which on most Android phones is provided by Google and receives those coordinates.
- Cards you share. When you share a cat, the card holds the cat's details, your profile (name, emoji, and the title and region if you filled them in) and the cat's location only if you chose to include it (off, about 1 km, or exact). Where it goes is up to you: once shared, it's out of our hands and the app's.
- Backups. A backup is written to a folder you choose. If that folder is in a cloud service such as Google Drive, that service's own terms apply.
Children
Catedex collects nothing from anyone, children included.

If this ever changes, this page will be updated first, with a new date at the top.
